Wait, what’s an adventure session?
An adventure session is whatever you want it to be! It’s usually an engagement session, but it can also be an anniversary session, a day-after or day-before photo session prior to your elopement, or a couple session. This type of session usually involves going to an epic location for amazing photos and, as it’s mentioned in the name, involves some element of adventure.
Adventure is completely subjective and could mean something different to each person. An adventure session to you could mean hiking, climbing, or braving the cold (or heat!) or it could entail visiting a place you’ve never been before or experiencing something you’ve never done before.
Killion and Tyler’s Adventure Couple’s Session in Roanoke, Virginia
For Killion (she/her) and Tyler (he/him), they wanted to do an adventure couple’s session just cause! They wanted to get professional photos done because they came to realize that they didn’t have many photos together and thought that an adventure session would be a nice experience to share with one another.
So, with that in mind, we opted to do a shorter adventure session. They both expressed wanted to have a mountainous backdrop but without doing all of the hiking. To help them fulfill their vision, I scouted out a location for them. My first thought was a parking garage or parking deck but Killion and Tyler did also express that they’d like to avoid the city vibe. So, when I came across the South County Library, I knew that they’d absolutely love this spot! The library has a great view of a mountain and a large plot of land behind the building with plenty of parking. This was our winner!
On the day of the session, it was on and off raining but Killion and Tyler were still determined to get their photos taken. At the start of their session, it drizzled a little so I brought out my clear, bubble umbrellas for them to use as a cute prop.
However, we didn’t need them for much longer, as the drizzling stopped and the sun started coming out. Naturally, we took advantage of this change of weather to snap all of the shots. And then, the best part of the session happened: A RAINBOW APPEARED! Naturally, I screamed out of pure excitement, they were both yelling out of pure joy, and we made some magic!
What type of music was used for their adventure couple’s session?
First, let me start by mentioning that creating playlists is a huge part of my adventure session experience! Each playlist is specifically curated for each adventure session and, as I’m making them, I aim to keep the playlist upbeat and fun so that my couples feel their absolute best during their session. This playlist is curated based on my couples favorite songs, artists, and bands. My goal is to make my couples feel confident and comfortable in front of the camera and have found that adding music for these sessions really helps to enhance the overall vibe of the session.
Killion and Tyler told me that their top artists were Paramore, Greta Van Fleet, and Dreamcatcher. While most of their playlist included songs from each artist at various stages of their respective careers, I also included other songs similar to that vibe like Want U by USEOL and Airplanes by B.oB. and Hayley Williams of Paramore. Their overall musical vibe leaned rock, alternative rock, and K-Pop and I provided that experience for them through this playlist.
What vibe were Killion and Tyler going for?
Killion and Tyler describe themselves as a silly couple who prefer not to take things too seriously. When the three of us met to talk about their session, we talked about different poses they wanted to incorporate, their expectations, how the two of them met, and what they loved about one another.
This is what Killion had to say about Tyler: “He’s just so sweet and always makes me feel safe and loved and listened to, and I appreciate how honest and vulnerable he is with me and how he seems to enjoy even the hard work of building a relationship.”
This is what Tyler had to say about Killion: “What’s special about her is how open and genuine she is and how I can be me with her, I love being silly with her, and her general presence makes me happy. That’s just a short summary because I could probably go on and on.”
So, based on what they had to say about one another, I tried my hardest to incorporate lots of sweet moments during their session!

“It was an overall enjoyable experience! Cameron was so fun to work with and also put in so much work to make it a great photo session. She put a lot of time and effort into finding a great location, including scouting out the area beforehand. The personalized playlist was also great and something I’ve never experienced before! The shoot itself was so much fun and I also appreciated how quickly we got our photos afterwards. I shared the photos with friends and family and finally updated my profile picture after 2 years! “Cameron provided consistent and clear communication and made the entire process fun and easy! My experience with Cameron Warren Photography was very enjoyable! She was easy to contact and communicate with and to collaborate with to figure out what we wanted. We had very fun video call sessions with her and she helped me stay relaxed when it came time for the shoot by giving updates about the weather and location.
